Frequently Asked Questions

Should married couples combine their finances?

The episode explains that joint finances work for Doc and Crystal, while acknowledging that another couple may arrange accounts differently. The essential issue is shared awareness, agreement, and transparency.

Is it okay to have a separate bank account when married?

A separate account is not automatically a problem. It becomes concerning when it is hidden, inaccessible to the other spouse, or disconnected from the couple’s agreed financial goals.

Why is financial transparency important in marriage?

Transparency helps couples budget realistically, pursue shared goals, and avoid the suspicion created by hidden money or spending.

Okay. So, so what? I don't know. Um, so there were a bunch of things that people said they wanted to know about. I think the most frequently occurring topic was finances. Yes, we going to need some more time. I mean, look, one, two, three, tell truth. We really haven't figured that out. Like, so to answer one question off the rip, all of our stuff is joint.

So, he can see what I bring in, I can see what he bring in, and we both can see everything that we send out. Yes. Divide and conquer. Because we a team, and you know, transparency is important. Like I mean I have separate accounts and stuff or whatever, but he has access to them. So if he ever wants to know what I'm doing with my little Joy personal care, self-c care account, he can go look at it. um Well, I have one too. Remember the business account? Yeah. And you have your business account, which you are the president of.

So around whatever. Um, yeah. So, like it's okay to have separate accounts, but it's all about the transparency that you bring to the situation. Like, you can't just be out here bad talk about I got an account on the side. It's only me and my mama or me and my brother, sister, whatever. For the money I bring in to treat myself only. I think that's when they get real real suspect. Yeah. I mean like cuz if you going to be married and be one then you got to bring everything together. Like sure, you know, maybe that works for some people, it don't work for us.

Like if we're going to really have a balanced budget, if we're really going to have um shared financial goals, then we got to have the same financial situation. You better see everything. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, and the other thing about that is like if you're not being transparent about what you got, what you doing? Yeah. What you like why we ain't that's the bigger question. Like is why why aren't you transparent? Yeah. Like what what why can't we share?

like we just going to let that linger for a second. I mean there's no judgment, right? But if you're going to have a separate I'm judging. I Well, what I'm going say I'm judging. Okay, you can judge. But what I'm going to say is if you have a separate account, um what's important is that the your spouse significant other is aware of it and has access to it. It can't be just like this thing that's in a closet under lock and key. Like that ain't work. That ain't going to work. That's not going to work.

Um, it's all about your motivation and your goals, right? What are you trying to accomplish? What are you doing? And why are you doing it? Um, it's one thing to have a secret account if you trying to like, you know, throw a surprise 50th birthday party, something like that. That's fine. And you can explain that away, you know, after the party, but you can't be sitting up here stacking chips to do Lord knows what. Lord knows what. No, but I'm I'm interesting cuz I was just judging real hard just now. Mhm.

If if there are couples on here or listening, I would love to know the reason why you do have separate accounts or private accounts. This double chin is taking me down. My god, stop it. Okay, carry on. Go. I swear. No, I Oh, so you raised it up now. Yeah, we're going to change our angle. You've already exposed yourself, so why would you change the angle? I'mma just make it be great for me.

Okay, I'll be interested to know why. If there are people who have separate accounts, why they have separate accounts? Shout out to Guinness Beard. Drink responsibly. Oh, no. Why' you better be of age? I mean, I got the shirt on. I don't want to like, you know what I'm saying? So, it's fine. We grown, right?

Yeah. So, tell us if you got a separate account, why you got a separate account? Is it because somebody is spending too much? Is it because somebody is doing stuff that you are suspicious of like or I don't know. I feel like that's going to be it. Yeah. I just want to know. I'm I'm interested. But we do not. No, we do not.

We don't because because we don't. Yeah, we don't. And let let's be very clear. I'm the spender. I do it. I do. I spend more, but I am responsible for more. And that's something we can get into in a um a future episode because we talked a lot about u roles and responsibilities in the comments. Yeah. and he and I, Doc and I have different responsibilities in the house.

And we'll save it for later. We'll save it for later. We'll save it for later. We've talked about I ain't spending more because I'm just out here doing the most. Let's be very clear. I'm out here doing the best for the most. Which might be the most how you want. M and y'all going to have to wait for that episode. So listen, tell us tell us if you got a separate account, why you got a separate account. We ain't going to judge you.

um Doc might judge you. I'm not going to judge you, but you got to really think through what it is you're trying to accomplish as a team. And if you have separate goals and y'all agree to those separate goals and you support one another in those goals and the achievement of them, then yeah, you can have separate accounts. But the transparency is the key. Like you can't just be out here hiding stuff. That sucks. Yeah. That does not build trust. It does not strengthen the relationship. um Yeah.

I think that's good. That's it. Yes. Okay. Till next time. Bye. See you.

So, (0:40) he can see what I bring in, I can see (0:43) what he bring in, and we both can see (0:45) everything that we send out. (0:48) Yes. Divide and conquer. (0:49) Because we a team, and you know, (0:52) transparency is important. Like (0:55) I mean I have separate accounts and (1:00) stuff or whatever, but he has access to (1:02) them. So if he ever wants to know what (1:04) I'm doing with my little (1:07) Joy personal care, self-c care account, (1:12) he can go look at it. um (1:13) Well, I have one too. Remember the (1:15) business account? (1:16) Yeah. And you have your business (1:17) account, (1:17) which you are the president of.

So (1:21) around whatever. um, yeah. So, like it's (1:25) okay to have (1:28) separate accounts, but it's all about (1:31) the transparency that you bring to the (1:32) situation. Like, you can't just be out (1:34) here bad talk about I got an account on (1:37) the side. It's only me and my mama or me (1:40) and my brother, sister, whatever. (1:42) For the money I bring in to treat myself (1:45) only. I (1:46) I think that's when they get real real (1:48) suspect. (1:49) Yeah. I mean like cuz if you going to be (1:52) married and be one then you got to bring (1:54) everything together. Like (1:57) sure, you know, maybe that works for (1:59) some people, it don't work for us.

Like (2:02) if we're going to really have a balanced (2:06) budget, if we're really going to have um (2:09) shared financial goals, then we got to (2:11) have the same financial situation. (2:14) You better see everything. (2:16) Yeah. Yeah. I mean, and the other thing (2:19) about that is like if you're not being (2:23) transparent about (2:26) what you got, (2:28) what you doing? (2:29) Yeah. What you (2:30) like why we ain't (2:33) that that's the bigger question. Like is (2:35) why why aren't you transparent? (2:37) Yeah. Like what what why can't we share?

(2:40) like (2:45) uh (2:45) we just going to let that linger for a (2:47) second. I mean there's no judgment, (2:49) right? But if you're going to have a (2:51) separate (2:51) I'm judging. (2:52) I Well, what I'm going say (2:54) I'm judging. (2:55) Okay, you can judge. But what I'm going (2:57) to say is if you have a separate (2:59) account, (3:01) um what's important is that the your (3:04) spouse (3:05) significant other is aware of it and has (3:08) access to it. It can't be just like this (3:10) thing that's in a closet under lock and (3:13) key. Like that ain't work. That ain't (3:15) going to work. That's not going to work.

(3:17) um, it's all about your motivation and (3:19) your goals, right? What are you trying (3:20) to accomplish? What are you doing? And (3:24) why are you doing it? um, it's one thing (3:26) to have a secret account if you trying (3:28) to like, (3:30) you know, throw a surprise 50th birthday (3:32) party, (3:33) something like that. (3:34) That's fine. And you can explain that (3:36) away, you know, after the party, but you (3:40) can't be sitting up here uh stacking (3:42) chips to do (3:44) Lord knows what. (3:47) Lord knows what. (3:48) No, but I'm I'm interesting cuz I was (3:50) just judging real hard just now. (3:52) Mhm.

(3:53) If if there are couples on here or (3:56) listening, I would love to know the (3:58) reason why you do have separate accounts (4:00) or private accounts. (4:02) This double chin is taking me down. My (4:04) god, stop it. (4:06) Okay, carry on. Go. (4:08) I swear. (4:09) No, I I Oh, so you raised it up now. (4:12) Yeah, we're going to change our angle. (4:14) You've already exposed yourself, so why (4:16) would you change the angle? (4:17) I'mma just make it be great for me.

(4:19) Okay, (4:19) I'll be interested to know why. If (4:22) there are people who have (4:24) separate accounts, why they have (4:26) separate accounts? (4:27) Shout out to Guinness Beard. Drink (4:28) responsibly. (4:30) Oh, no. Why' you (4:32) better be of age? I mean, I got the (4:34) shirt on. I don't want to like, you know (4:35) what I'm saying? So, it's fine. We (4:37) grown, (4:38) right?

(4:38) Yeah. So, tell us if you got a separate (4:40) account, why you got a separate account? (4:42) Is it because somebody is spending too (4:44) much? Is it because somebody is doing (4:48) stuff that you are suspicious of like or (4:55) I don't know. I feel like that's going (4:57) to be it. (4:57) Yeah. I just want to know. I'm I'm (4:59) interested. But we do not. (5:01) No, we do not.

We don't because (5:05) because we don't. (5:06) Yeah, we don't. And let let's be very (5:08) clear. I (5:12) I'm the spender. (5:16) I do it. I do. I spend more, but I am (5:20) responsible for more. And that's (5:21) something we can get into in a um a (5:24) future episode because we talked a lot (5:26) about u roles and responsibilities in (5:28) the comments. Yeah. and he and I, Doc (5:32) and I have different responsibilities in (5:34) the house.

And (5:36) we'll save it for later. We'll save it (5:38) for later. (5:39) We'll save it for later. (5:40) We've talked about I ain't spending more (5:43) because I'm just out here (5:45) doing the most. Let's be very clear. I'm (5:48) out here doing the best (5:51) for the most. (5:52) Which might be the most (5:56) how you want. M and y'all going to have (5:58) to wait for that episode. So listen, (6:01) tell us tell us (6:04) if you got a separate account, why you (6:05) got a separate account. We ain't going (6:06) to judge you.

(6:08) um Doc might judge you. I'm not going to (6:11) judge you, but you got to really think (6:13) through what it is you're trying to (6:15) accomplish as a team. And if you have (6:18) separate goals and y'all agree to those (6:20) separate goals and and you support one (6:23) another in those goals and the (6:25) achievement of them, then yeah, you can (6:26) have separate accounts. But the (6:28) transparency is the key. Like you can't (6:30) just be out here hiding stuff. That that (6:32) sucks. (6:33) Yeah. (6:33) That does not build trust. It does not (6:36) strengthen the relationship. um (6:39) Yeah.

I (6:41) think that's good. (6:41) That's it. (6:42) Yes. (6:42) Okay. (6:43) Till next time. (6:44) Bye. (6:44) See you.
